scarcity It is almost midnight and I’m just back from Toys R Us. The experience reminded me how important SCARCITY is in marketing. The less there is of something valuable, the greater lengths people are willing to go to get it. Whether its Cabbage Patch Dolls or Gold in the mountains, when supply drops, price goes up.

What does this have to do with your network marketing business? Not much on the product side, but lots on the leadership side. How available are you to your team? Do you drop everything for anyone in your downline or the select few that deserve this level of responsiveness? Do you drive two hours to do 3-ways with people that are in no way prequalifed for your opportunity? If so, what do you say to your team member after a meeting like this?

When you apply the principles of attraction marketing to your leadership brand you simultanously signal the scarcity of your time. It becomes implicit in your demeanor and communications that you will only spend your time with team members that are actively participating in their education and engaging in revenue-generating activities. Everyone else gets ‘group time’ with you. You are able to set minimum standards for prequalifying leads and are able to assign homework assignments that must be completed before meeting with you.

Two wonderful things happen as a result of creating scarcity around your personal coaching time. Your distributors take a more active role in their own development AND you get some family time back. That’s the reason you got into network marketing anyway, right? Control your time. Make your team earn it. The right ones will surface.
