Attraction Marketing on the Internet: Lessons Learned from the Violin

Attraction Marketing is more important on the Internet than just about any other place. The one exception may be a subway. Let me explain.
In 2007 the Washington Post conducted a classic social experiment. A world-famous violinist named Joshua Bell played in a Metro station for 45 minutes on a $3.5 million dollar violin wearing jeans, a baseball cap and sneakers. What do you think happened? What can this story teach as about attraction marketing on the Internet? A whole heck of a lot:
1. Free is not attractive – If all the content on your website is free, visitors will place lesser value on it even if it is a masterpiece.
2. Shabby is not attractive – Appearance does matter. A professional header, layout and opt-in box will make a tremendous difference in your conversion rates.
3. Who finds who is VERY important - This is the essence of Attraction Marketing on the Internet. Did you seek out the prospect or did they find you? The person doing the seeking will immediately value the information (or the music) of the person being sought out because they asked for it. This is an entirely different form of marketing and the power comes from the directionality of the relationship.
An example:
In my business as an MLM mentor, attraction marketing influences everything I do. Ask yourself, how attractive is a mentor that seeks out students? Not at all. The mentor only has value if the student does the seeking. Same goes for business coaches, consultants and advisors of all sorts.
If you are in one of these fields, make sure that seekers on the Internet can find you. And not just in one place, you want them to find you in EVERY place they look. Google search, directories, articles, blogs, social media. If you are everywhere online, you are very attractive to them. Once they asked you for information or proactively visit your website, they are bonded to you. They found you.
It all boils down to this:
Attraction Marketing on the Internet is all being found and then showcasing knowledge that solves their most pressing problems for free to solidify the relationship. What Do MLM and Magnets Have in Common?

Most likely you have done everything from cold calling people in the phone book, leaving business cards in the self help books in the local bookstore, engaging in conversations with anyone with a heartbeat, attending every community social gathering, etc…etc…
While some of those methods might have worked, I am sure it was always short term and you found yourself having to consistently do the work to keep the leads coming in. Over the course of time, it gets cumbersome and something has got to give.
It wasn’t until I learned how to leverage systems that allowed me to multiply my efforts, that I saw a huge change in my productivity as well as growth in business.
One of the things I realized is that I wasted a lot of time talking to people that I had no business talking to about business. I realized that if I was going to move ahead in business, I would have to have a system in place to pre-qualify my prospects before I ever talked to them. This is called sifting and sorting.

Nobody believes me when I say I have only been marketing online for a couple months. Well, I did do some email marketing for another business, but I wouldn’t classify what I have done in the past as online marketing. These past couple months have been a magic transformation for me. Your upline has probably told you that you are really in the sorting business, right? Do you want to pan for gold by hand or use an automated sorter? How much more dirt could you sift through if a machine was doing the majority of it while you were at work or asleep?
C) Send people a little more information every day. They will join when the timing is right for them and they know you haven’t quit. Has your upline told you that the fortune is in the follow-up? That is 100% true. However, consistent follow-up is very tough on the schedule and psyche. Follow-up takes time away from exposing the opportunity to new people. And, it can be awkward to see your friends at work, ball games and concerts and always be throwing in a follow-up plug about your business. Soon, you’ll have no friends left. Instead, if they are receptive but not ready at your first meeting, add them to an automated follow-up list. You can forward pre-written messages from your upline or write your own. They need to hear from you at least 3 times a week, but it is very passive. D) Make money on related products via affiliates sales even if they don’t join your business and while you continue to drip on them about your business. Lessons in Marketing from the Christmas Season

It is almost midnight and I’m just back from Toys R Us. The experience reminded me how important SCARCITY is in marketing. The less there is of something valuable, the greater lengths people are willing to go to get it. Whether its Cabbage Patch Dolls or Gold in the mountains, when supply drops, price goes up.
What does this have to do with your network marketing business? Not much on the product side, but lots on the leadership side. How available are you to your team? Do you drop everything for anyone in your downline or the select few that deserve this level of responsiveness? Do you drive two hours to do 3-ways with people that are in no way prequalifed for your opportunity? If so, what do you say to your team member after a meeting like this?

The .com domain will cost slightly more than the .net, .me or .info domains but it is worth it.
Once you own the domain for your name, work on getting it into the #1 slot on Google and Yahoo’s search engine. When I first started on the Internet my Twitter link, LinkedIn link and Facebook link were all listed before my domain name in the search results. That’s because these pages had existed for several months or years and time is one of the factors in search engine rankings. I set about building backlinks to the www.andreakropp.com site. Each of your social networking sites provides one backlink. Do signup for the ones you don’t belong to just to for the backlinks. I use a service called OnlyWire.
Why is all this so important? Because most people will Google your name before contacting you to start a business relationship. Whether they pick up your business card, read an article of yours or hear your name on the radio, you are a stranger. The quickest way to get the scoop on a stranger is Google. What’s the good? What’s the bad? Don’t let a small claims court case about pirated cable TV be what they find. Flood the Internet with good things about you and bury that experience on page 20 forever.

No Matter What Company You Are With…You Have 4 Products

Yes, you read that correctly…no matter what networking company you are with, you have exactly 4 products to offer. I don’t care whether you think you have a single service or whether you have a 100 page product catalog, until you understand your 4 (and only 4) products, you’ll be spinning your wheels.
In promoting a home business opportunity your four products are: 1) The company’s products and services, 2) The company’s independent distributor/representative opportunity, 3) You the sponsor, and 4) Your support and training system.
Now let’s consider how unique each of your 4 products is.
1) The company’s products and services – I’m sure they are great. That’s why you joined the company in the first place. Direct sales companies generally have wonderful products. The trouble is, once a customer knows about the amazing products, they can get them from any one of thousands of distributors. While is is true that most customers will be loyal to you if you were the first one that familiarized them with the product and your prices and services are in line with the market, if a superior product from another company comes along they are gone.
2) The company’s independent distributor/representative opportunity – Again, I’m sure it is wonderful. That’s why you got involved in the first place. But again, just like with the products themselves, the opportunity is available from thousands of sources.
3) You the sponsor – Now we are getting into unique territory. There is only 1 you. You’ve got strengths and weaknesses and hopefully you are leveraging the strengths and continuing to work on your rough spots. Your prospect cannot get You from any other source. If they already want more and more and more of you, great, you have a tremendous personal brand. If not, your personal brand can be developed through blogs like this one 
4) Your support and training system – Within every networking company there are systems that don’t work, systems that work if you work them hard, and systems that provide relatively smooth travel to success with consistent, focused effort. The system you personally adopt and teach is a product in an of itself. Don’t take your upline’s word for it that his/her system is the best. Do your own research. In this Internet age, many home business playbooks are still exclusively based on warm market tactics and the 3-foot rule. The system is as much part of the product as YOU are. Make sure it is in the 21st century.
As you can see, the most unique product you have to offer your prospect is YOU followed by your support and training system. Your products are great, your company is great. YOU need to be greater still. So stop inviting your prospects to listen to your upline triple black platinum whatever. This activity only serves to further establish THEM as the leader. Instead, take charge of your team. YOU lead.
Its the only product you have 100% control over anyway.
